The playing field is a square with $9 \times 9$ cells, separated into smaller squares with a side of $3$ cells. Altogether, there are $81$ cells on the playing field. When you start the game, some numbers from $1$ to $9$ are already filled in. The aim of the game is to fill in the empty cells with numbers from $1-9$, so each number appears only once in each row, column and in every small $3 \times 3$ square.
